3 Reasons Why We Pray

Have you ever wondered why we pray? What’s the point? Why do we pray day and night? Why do we have weekly prayer groups who meet to pray about the same thing, week after week?

________________________________________________________________

1. We pray out of obedience.
-> God commands us to pray all the time, day and night.

A. On your walls, O Jerusalem, I have set watchmen; all the day and all the night they shall never be silent. You who put the Lord in remembrance, take no rest, and give him no rest until He establishes Jerusalem and makes it a praise in the earth. – Isaiah 62:7-8

B. pray without ceasing – 1 Thessalonians 5:17

2. We pray because God is faithful.
-> God is faithful. It is part of His character. He cannot NOT be faithful. We pray to Him, because He remains faithful to us, and because we want to remain faithful, as well.

A. And will not God give justice to His elect, who cry to Him day and night? Will He delay long over them? I tell you, He will give justice to them speedily. Nevertheless, when the Son of Man comes, will He find faith on earth? – Luke 18:7-8

B. For the Lord is good; His steadfast love endures forever, and His faithfulness to all generations. – Psalm 100:5

3. We pray to God, because He answers us when we pray His will!

A. Delight yourself in the Lord, and He will give you the desires of your heart. – Psalm 37:4

B. Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives, and the one who seeks finds, and to the one who knocks it will be opened. Or which one of you, if his son asks him for bread, will give him a stone? Or if he asks for a fish, will give him a serpent? If you then, who are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father who is in Heaven give good things to those who ask Him! – Matthew 7:7-11 (also in Luke 11:9-13)

C. When he calls to me, I will answer him; I will be with him in trouble; I will rescue him and honor him. – Psalm 91:15

D. Is anyone among you suffering? Let him pray. Is anyone cheerful? Let him sing praise. Is anyone among you sick? Let him call for the elders of the church, and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord. And the prayer of faith will save the one who is sick, and the Lord will raise him up. And if he has committed sins, he will be forgiven. – James 5:13-15

About morgangascho

I grew up in Iowa, USA (famous for growing corn). I'm contemplative, I love writing, and blogging has become a hobby. Writing worship music is a way to engage in sweet conversation with the Divine Creator of the Universe, Jesus. He is my life. I am hidden in Him and I pray that someday I will know what that means. Until then, I'm seeking His glory, waiting for the day when it will all be revealed to me.
